Karangahake Gorge is situated at the Southern end of The Coromandel Peninsula in New Zealand's North Island. The gorge is renowned for it’s gold mining history and superb scenery. As part of our series of New Zealand Nature Tours, the Karangahake Gorge with its history of New Zealand gold mining is one tour not to be missed. Love My New Zealand will collect you in one of our new Land Rover Discovery 4WD's offering the best in comfort and safety on the two hour trip from Auckland city. (We are happy however to pick you up from Auckland airport or elsewhere.) Enjoy in-vehicle refreshments along the way and have a comfort stop on arrival before beginning our Karangahake Gorge Gold Mining tour.
We begin our two hour gold mining gorge tour with a walk through the thousand metre long former railway tunnel built in the late 1800's for the Waihi Gold-Mining Company. Learn about the history of the early settlers and take in the stunning scenery of the gorge.
The Karangahake Gorge walk only requires a moderate walking ability. We take care of everything you may need during the walk - water, snacks and your friendly professional guide who has much local and historical knowledge about the area. If you wish to have a more challenging walk, contact us at the time of booking and we will build in a longer bush walk that will provide a real sense of achievement.
At the end of the gorge we will break for a delicious lunch at The Talisman, a delightful eatery set in picturesque grounds. Lounge under the shade or take a walk through the lovely gardens before making the twenty minute walk back to your luxury tour vehicle before we drive you back to Auckland city or your original collection point. Nothing to think about - simply relax and enjoy...
